biography

Aeryn Reilly was always a happy, fun-loving child. With a smile on her face and never a care in the world, she seemed to brighten a room whenever she walked in. The youngest of two, Aeryn was always a handful, bursting with so much energy it seemed impossible to keep up with her. At least, that's always what her mother always complained about. But then again, the mother-daughter duo were never as close as Amanda would have wanted them to be when she discovered she was going to be having a girl. She had dreamed of dresses and tiaras and maybe even a few beauty pageants. Instead, she got mud tracked over her beautiful white carpet and a daughter who preferred to play football than twirl in frilly dresses.

In contrast, Aeryn and her father were peas in a pod and when she wasn't following her older brother around as though she could be his shadow, she was stuck to her father's side. As a college football coach, David Reilly would often take both of his children to game with him and it wasn't long before his spitfire daughter earned the nickname of Mini-Coach as she bossed the players around from the bench. It was obvious from early on that she had an affinity for sports, so David made the most of it by signing her up to play soccer and hockey. Aeryn loved both, but it quickly became obvious that with her size and stature, she was far better suited to be a striker than a sniper.

While her big brother went on to become the beloved star quarterback in high school, Aeryn continued to make a name for herself on her own field. Rumors swirled that she might one day go to the Olympics and Aeryn was focused on that goal. She kept her grades up and she kept her eyes on the prize, as much as her mother might disapprove of it or maybe even slightly in spite of it. Then, early the morning of January 1, 2005, everything changed.

On the way home from a New Year's Party, her brother Austin had been killed in a hit-and-run accident. Having been the only one home at the time, Aeryn picked up the call from the police station and felt her whole world begin to crumble around her.

Austin's death spun everything into a tailspin. One morning not long after the accident, her mother disappeared, leaving husband and daughter with no good-bye, no closure. The only indication that she was not returning to them was a post-it note attached to the divorce papers she had left on the kitchen counter. Afterwards, her father folded up in himself with grief while Aeryn fell into a cycle of reckless behavior. She was arrested twice, had a string of random hook-ups and her grades began to slip. Her wake-up call came when she was officially kicked off the soccer team, her Olympic dreams quickly going up in a burst of flames.

It wasn't easy, but Aeryn pulled herself together with some help in order to get her grades up so she could graduate on time with all of her friends and get into college. Of course, she knew that she wouldn't be going far anyway. Her father had come to rely on her so much that Aeryn couldn't imagine leaving him. Applying solely to the University of Farmington at Maine, Aeryn decided to study Community Health Education: School Health in hopes of becoming a Physical Education teacher.

After graduation, Aeryn took a contract at her old high school when one of the physical education teachers went on maternity leave. It was a struggle at first to gain the respect of her students who, in some cases, were just a few years younger than her, but she succeeded in due time. After nearly a year and a half though, just before Christmas, her contract ended and she was left scrambling to find a job again. When a position opened up at the near-by Elementary School, she jumped at it. It's a whole other world from high school though and Aeryn is doing her best to adjust.
